Dawn to dusk challenge for Devon golfers
Monday 22nd February 2010
Three South Devon golfers are taking part in the golfing day of their dreams – although they might need some strong black coffee to get through it.
Leading South Devon solicitors Hooper & Wollen are staging what they hope will be the longest golf challenge that the county has ever seen – on the longest day of the year.
Practice Manager Clive Meredith from Hooper & Wollen, said: “We have staged a number of golfing days before but this one is going to be something special. I will be joined by my colleagues Andrew Guthrie and David Brooking for the day, starting at dawn at 5.30am and going through to sunset at 10.30pm. We all love our golf and play regularly, but it will be interesting to see who has the stamina to make it through a 17 hour session!
“We’ll stop for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and will no doubt need an extra-large supply of golf balls, and probably a few energy drinks, to keep us going.”
The event will be held on Thursday 24th June 2010 at the Churston Golf Club, which is generously not charging for the 12 rounds the trio are aiming to play.
David Brooking commented: “Both Clive and I have been affected with cancer, I lost my father to cancer some years ago, and Clive has suffered with it himself. As a result, we are aiming to raise £1,000 for Macmillan cancer research as it is a cause close to our hearts.”
