KOR was appointed to provide PR and communications around the mapping of Marine Conservation Zones in the South West, called the Finding Sanctuary Project.
The Project – overseen by Defra, Natural England and other partner organisations – was established in 2009 as one of four regional projects which make up the Marine Conservation Zone (MCZ) project. Sea users and interest groups worked collaboratively to design and recommend a network of MCZ around South West England.
KOR began by targeting local press to let people know of local consultation meetings and how they could be involved and submitted regular features to regional press and media providing important updates and opportunities for public involvement.
In addition, we organised publicity relating to ministerial visits to the South West in connection with the project and created a series of sea-user based features for specialist magazines and websites including yachting, surfing and bird-watching.
The two-year consultation project in the South West gathered important feedback from nearly a quarter of a million of the region’s water users and was highlighted as one of the most successful consultation projects in the UK.
