Moving from Warwickshire to the Westcountry in lockdown

When the Covid-19 lockdown was announced in March, retired lawyer Jan Lewis thought that the move to her dream home in Devon was turning to dust.

Having placed a deposit on a brand new Buckingham immediately after her first visit to the Cavanna Homes’ luxury development @Wolborough Hill in Newton Abbot, Jan feared that lockdown would delay her much anticipated relocation from Warwickshire to the Westcountry – but she had underestimated the ingenuity of sales advisor Sarah Bowden.

Jan, who was living in rented accommodation at the time, having already sold her rural Warwickshire cottage, said:

After the Prime Minister’s announcement, I spoke to Sarah and she was brilliant. We worked together to make sure the completion would still go ahead as planned on April 23rd. During this time, I was in close contact with Sarah and valued her help and opinion. We were unable to get the carpet I’d originally chosen, but Sarah helped me pick a second choice over WhatsApp, so when I moved in rooms were beautifully carpeted. They even laid temporary vinyl in the wet rooms for me until those I’d selected previously were available.

Jan enlisted the help of a family-run removal company who were able to work together and transport her belongings out of storage to her new home in Devon, which as a new build was classed as a ‘clean house’ as no one had lived there before, making the process easier.

My moving in day was very different to how I’d anticipated it would be. Sarah greeted me with the keys, but due to health and safety restrictions in place, she was unable to come in and do the handover. However, I was welcomed with a lovely card and a hamper of tasty goodies, which was a nice touch.

Andy Sykes, the firm’s Head of Construction even popped in one day in protective gear to talk me through the Nest heating controls and Sarah was always at the end of the phone. When the Site Manager Gary Gregory returned to work, he made a point of coming to introduce himself and welcoming me to Wolborough Hill – they’ve all been very good!

This is such a fantastic location – I can walk into Newton Abbot town centre and I’m close to the sea and surrounded by countryside. My friends have already started to make bookings to come and visit!
